EXPERIENCED FIELD PRODUCER/AUDIO ENGINEER, MY BODY ODYSSEY PODCAST (& VIDEOCAST)

Help us take our show to the next level and a wider audience!

Seeking an experienced Field Producer/Engineer based in the Northeast (preferably New England) to play a major role in the production of our second season of My Body Odyssey (MBO), a podcast about the rewards and challenges of an active lifestyle.

The Field Producer/Engineer will set up and monitor the recording process at a variety of athletic events (charity runs & rides, local triathlons, ultimate disc tourneys, etc) where MBO records interviews with participants facing health and wellness challenges.

When developed into episodes, we call these everyday athletes “protagonists.” Season One protagonists included:

  • Iron Woman Diane, an amateur but accomplished triathlete with type one diabetes;

  • Joe & Josie, tandem cyclists who do not let Josie’s progressive MS keep them from riding in almost any weather

  • Jules, a cancer survivor who has not missed a day of rowing through several bouts of chemotherapy.

Episodes are constructed from interviews with these protagonists, ambient event sounds, and interviews with medical experts on the relevant conditions.

MBO Field recordings are of two kinds:

  1. Audio (& possibly video) recording of individual protagonists before, after, and during activities, such as biking, running, cycling, and yoga, etc

  2. Setting up and recording individuals as well as event sounds (starting line, finish line etc) at Boston Marathon, Pan Mass Challenge, Head of the Charles Regatta, etc., to capture the energy, enthusiasm, and importance of these events to the wellness journeys of our protagonists.

Weekend availability for recording events is a necessity for this position, as personal transportation. Ideal candidates will have worked with medical/wellness subject matter in previous projects and have episode production experience as well, preferably in ProTools. Video experience is also helpful in adapting full episodes into short video highlights for social media.

Past experience in producing shows with high audio and storytelling standards (such as NPR/PRX neworks) is desirable.

This is a 1099 contractor position with approximately 15-30 hours per week for a 6 month contract beginning late February or early March. Pay is at or above NPR and AIR standards. Schedule flexibility, team ethos and sense of humor during the inevitable tech glitches are also highly valued.

To apply, please sample two episodes of MBO and send a CV with portfolio links and feedback on those MBO episodes to: robert.pease@fluentknowledge.com
